We know that getting a mortgage can be stressful and time consuming, and even people with standard 9-5 jobs can struggle finding the time look for a mortgage.

So it’s no surprise that people working for the NHS, with their long hours and constant business, put getting a mortgage to the recesses of their minds because they just don’t have the time!

Here at The Mortgage Centre, finding mortgages for keyworkers is something we take pride in because we want to help out those who help all of us!

So, what mortgages are out there for NHS workers?

Whilst there are no schemes out there that are tailor made for NHS workers, there are government schemes available that could help NHS workers get a mortgage.

Who counts as NHS?

Although it might seem straightforward, here’s a list of the workers who would be counted as NHS:

  • NHS GP Surgeries
  • NHS Dental Practices
  • Mental Healthcare Trusts
  • NHS Ambulance Trust
  • The National Blood Transfusion Service
  • NHS Primary Care and other Care Trusts

What schemes are out there for NHS workers?

As mentioned early, there’s no such thing as an NHS mortgage. However, there are some government schemes that could help you get a mortgage.

Help to Buy

The Help to Buy scheme is open for first-time buyers and home movers looking to buy a new build home. For this scheme, the government will loan you 20% of your mortgage if you already have a 5% deposit, so that you’ll only need to borrow 75% from a lender to secure your home.

Shared Ownership

This scheme allows you to buy a share of your home, normally a minimum share of 25%, and then pay rent on the remaining share on the property until you can afford to buy a larger share in the future.

Right to Buy

If you’re a secure tenant of either council or housing association this scheme could allow you to buy the council house you’re currently living at a large discount.

How can we help?
